Marjorie Taylor Greene falls with January 6 amnesia case under oath

Marjorie Taylor Greene testifies under oath on Friday about her alleged role in the events of January 6. She’s not very happy about it.

The court appearance follows U.S. District Court Judge Amy Totenberg’s ruling earlier this week that a case seeking to disqualify Greene from office for “participation in an insurrection or rebellion” could proceed. Greene has consistently and very publicly pushed conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, while urging his supporters to descend on Washington, D.C., before the election was certified on Jan. 6.

Greene faced several of her social media posts on the issue while on the stand, but she was reluctant to take ownership of the opinions she had held in the past. The Georgia conspiracy theorist has long engaged with some of the most extreme corners of the conservative media, spouting lies about fellow Democrats, hate speech and calls for violence, and on Friday she seemed well aware of the seriousness of his case when he is pulled from the cesspool of right-wing internet demagoguery and laid bare in court.

“Is it fair to say that from election night to January 6, your personal opinion and wish was that Congress not certify Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election?” he was asked.

“No, that’s not correct,” she replied.

Greene also adamantly denied saying that House Speaker Nancy was a traitor to the United States, despite explicitly describing her as such.

Greene in media appearances earlier this week seemed concerned that the media was focusing on specific clips and sound bites from her testimony on Friday. “They’re going to click and cut and paste so they can sell a lie on their networks every night,” she said during an appearance on One America News. It stands to reason that she may have refrained from admitting her previous comments throughout her testimony on Friday, lest the networks “click, cut and paste” them for what they are.

Greene ultimately said of Pelosi that by “not securing the border that violates her oath of office,” but refused to admit that she called her a traitor.

“That’s good,” replied the lawyer. “I’m not interested in his oath of office. I’m interested that you said she’s a traitor to our country.

rolling stone reported in October that Greene was one of several Republican lawmakers involved in organizing the rally near the White House that preceded the attack on the Capitol. The topic came up on Friday, of course, and instead of denying her involvement, Greene repeatedly said she didn’t recall any conversations she might have had regarding what was to come on Jan. 6.

She was first asked if she had spoken to anyone in government to find out if there would be protests on January 6.

“I don’t remember,” she said. “We were mostly reading about voter fraud and people were signing affidavits that they had witnessed with voter fraud, and getting ready to oppose it. That’s about all I remember. »

“Pretty much, but your testimony as you sit here today under oath is that you didn’t tell anyone in government that there were going to be big protests in Washington on January 6th? asked the lawyer.

“I do not remember.”

She was asked if she had spoken to Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Arizona)

“I do not remember.”

She was asked if she had spoken to Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Arizona)

“Sorry, I don’t remember.”

What about anyone in the White House?

“I do not remember.”

Did she hear anyone mention the potential for violence on January 6?

“I do not remember.”
