Shop for local kids’ toys at a Utah Law Enforcement Vacation Event
MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4) – Area children received a holiday treat early Saturday as they purchased toys from local law enforcement.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office hosted their annual Shopping with the Shield event. Over 39 families with over 100 children participated in the holiday event. The event was organized in partnership with the Walmart and Chick-Fil-A branches of Midvale.
Over $ 40,000 was donated by members of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the United Police Department. The event aimed to create a memorable vacation experience for children and families who face hardships during this time.
“By interacting with participating children and families through the shopping experience, we law enforcement are able to cultivate positive relationships,” said Sheriff Rosie Rivera. âThis opportunity to build confidence and provide the necessary support to members of our community means a lot to us. “
After choosing toys and gifts for loved ones, families also received gift wrap to wrap their new gifts. Chick-Fil-A provided food for hungry shoppers after a morning spent shopping for gifts.
The sheriff’s office also unveiled a coloring book featuring sergeants thwarting the efforts of a bandit trying to steal the holiday cheer.
âThis coloring book allows us to share the Shopping with the Shield mission with the community in a fun and engaging way all year round,â said Deputy Sheriff Jake Petersen. “We also hope that our sheriff’s presentation will inspire young women to consider an important and rewarding career in law enforcement.”
Shopping with the Shield was founded in 2018 and has provided support to local families in need during the holiday season.
âEach year, member donations have increased, making the program a huge success and an opportunity to give back to the community,â officials said.
