Warring slams Jathedar for weaponizing Sikh youth rhetoric

PPCC Chairman Warring wondered what message the jathedar was trying to convey to the world at large and the Sikh community in particular by calling for providing weapons training to young Sikhs.
Punjab Congress Speaker Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday criticized Akal Takht jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh for his repeated calls to provide weapons training to young Sikhs.
The PPCC Chairman wondered what message the jathedar was trying to convey to the world at large and the Sikh community in particular.
“Jathedar sahib, your fascination with arming the Sikhs goes beyond the logic of peaceful coexistence. Are you advocating weapons training for all or just Sikhs and won’t that breed insecurity and mistrust among others? he asked in a statement.
After his recent controversial remarks advising Sikhs to keep licensed weapons, the acting jathedar in his usual address at an event to mark the anniversary of Operation Bluestar at the Golden Temple on Monday urged institutions Sikhs to “open training centers in modern and traditional weapons” to train young people.
Saying it would do Punjab no good, Warring said the suggestion to train young Sikhs could not come at a bad time as Punjab was still mourning the death of prominent singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who fell under the bullets of criminals at a young age of 28.
He urged the Akal Takht jathedar that instead of preaching weapons training they should spread the message of peace which the Sikh religion teaches and not violence because training the youths in the use of modern weapons cannot than lead to violence.
